What's up with lvgl.com?

Hi,

I’ve just noticed that lvgl.com points to squareline.io.

What’s the reason for that? A reunion is happening?

I’d be surprised as LVGL Pro was just released by LVGL. It’s a little bit confusing so could you clarify it?

Hi, the lvgl.com domain redirects to squareline.io simply because SquareLine has owned the domain for a long time. This does not signal a renewed partnership, as the two companies have different philosophies.

LVGL Pro is primarily designed to serve the needs of programmers. In contrast, SquareLine is developing tools with the future goal that programmers should have to do the least possible amount of work when building the UI. The aim is for the tool to be so effective that even a designer can assemble the final UI directly in SquareLine.

This approach saves significant time and resources, as it greatly reduces the need for communication between designers and programmers regarding the UI’s final implementation.

Thank you for your answer. I understand the differences, but I still don’t see why the domain is owned by SquareLine. It’s hard to believe that LVGL wouldn’t have wanted that domain. Was it registered earlier, or was there another reason behind it?

If it was simply taken before LVGL had the chance, I have to be honest, that raises ethical concerns. Owning and using a domain tied to a free and open-source technology you depend on can easily create confusion and appear as if you’re taking advantage of the project’s reputation.

I don’t mean this as a personal accusation, but as someone who has been in this industry for a long time, I’ve learned that culture matter more than the product itself. They determine how trust is built and how communities grow. I truly hope this is just a misunderstanding.

Could you please clarify how this situation came about? Maybe @kisvegabor can also help explain the background.

Hey Mike,

Thank you for bringing this up. It’s a complicated case indeed and it already has a history.

Before going into the details, let me try handling it in private once again. :crossed_fingers:

I just had a brief conversation with Zoltan Schmidt, CEO of SquareLine. He asked for some time until the beginning of November. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

It seems I really touched something sensitive. I hope you will resolve it amicably.
